Print Improvement

Concept

This project was a school exercise where I designed a poster proposal for the Empreintes dance festival at the National Conservatory (CNSMD).The challenge was translating physical movement into a static visual composition.

Process

The project started by making prints of various objects using paint to create unique shapes and textures. We then had to take these prints and arrange them into a composition that represented a specific subject, like a building, an object, or a scene. Finally, we were given a brief to design a poster for the Empreintes dance festival. We had to work with specific constraints such as a three-font limit, mandatory logo usage, and a set color palette—but the most important rule was that we were not allowed to alter our original composition.

Objectives

  • → Working Under Strict Constraints
  • → Analog Texture Exploration
  • → Composition & Hierarchy
  • → Typographic Integration

Capyskill

VA.1 Creating Design Projects -
I can conceive and develop new design ideas and work.

Level 10

• I can independently pursue a creative investigation that relates to some aspect of present-day life using a contemporary design practice.

• I can develop clear goals and criteria to help guide the process when coming up with ideas for creative projects.

• I can use multiple approaches (research, observation, ideation, prototyping) to begin a creative project and use different methods to overcome creative blocks.

Level 12

• I can choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary design practices to plan and produce work.

• I can utilize inquiry methods of observation, research, and/or experimentation to explore unfamiliar subjects through design.

Capyskill entry (evidence)

Research: I do market research and look at trends to understand the "playing field" before I start.

Tools: I pick my software (or just use paper) based on what makes the most sense for the project.

Target: I always think about who is going to see my design before I even begin.

Creative Blocks: If I get stuck, I switch formats or do quick sketches to clear my head.

Moodboards: I use moodboards to organize my ideas and set the vibe right from the start.

Goals

→ Master new software tools to expand my technical skills and options.

→ Learn more design methods to improve how I approach my projects.

→ Explore different styles and subjects to stop doing the same thing every time.
